  8. an old first generation iPhone could be left powered on in a checked suitcase running custom jailbroken software. it could stay in airplane mode (so as not to disrupt flight) while in the air (as determined by the accelerometer during takeoff and landing), and then periodically determine location from GPS or cell tower triangulation when on the ground, and transmit that location to a server so that the owner of the bag could see what city/airport/terminal the bag was in, in case it was lost.

  12. in the style of The New Dork - Entrepreneur State of Mind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exmwSxv7XJI), which is a spoof of (Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UjsXo9l6I8)

the idea is that kids these days - teenagers in high school, for example, are much more in touch with digital tools than people in their 20's and 30's, just as that latter group is much more in touch than the generation before them. it's impossible to hold on to the understanding, because the world changes too quickly...

initial idea from a discussion with Chris Anderson on August…

  13. a simple tool for two or more people to have an asynchronous voice conversation. voicemail is muuuch too cumbersome - this wouldn't be somewhere where people would say "call me back" but would instead be where they could just say what they wanted to say. would work well for multiple people, and it could keep track of what each person has listened to. like a normal conversation, but slower.

a lightweight interface, maybe SMS notifications? build it on Twilio!!

  15. write a program to take existing google tiles, modify them slightly (move roads, rename things, add fake landmarks) and then re-serve them as if they were real. maybe you could even change /etc/hosts so that the requests for the tiles on maps.google.com go somewhere other than google's servers?

  16. simple app for finding foursquare tips left by your friends in a certain geographic area. use foursquare API methods (that don't exist yet, gr) to get all of your friends tips, and then a library such as http://gmaps-utility-library-dev.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/geometrycontrols/examples/test.html to draw the polygons

perhaps do foursquare API calls from the client side somehow?

  18. a simple web app that, in its most basic form lets you enter someone's name and the date that you hung out with them. each person you hang out with can have a list of dates on which you saw them, and you can sort by who you hang out with most/least and who it has been the shortest/longest amount of time since you've seen.

it could eventually integrate with foursquare and maybe facebook and twitter and etc, but for now i want something slightly more powerful than a spreadsheet for keeping track of who it's time for me to…

an event that reschedules itself as a result of some action of the attendees. but how to plug a party into a wall, and make it act autonomously?

make a group with an event on meetup.com, and run an application somewhere that uses their API to automatically schedule an event, and postpone it every time a new person RSVP'd - some sort of game mechanic to keep people interested and involved in preventing it from occurring. maybe costumes and other event preparation could…
